Vehicle Strikes Building Causing Evacuation

In the early morning of Friday January 24, 2020, Squad 38 was dispatched to a vehicle into a building. Upon arrival of Stafford Police, they observed a vehicle into the building with one patient out of the vehicle. They also had observed a significant gas leak coming from the building. Furthermore, 380 arrived on location and immediately established EMS command, with 381 designated as operations. Due to the severity of the gas leak, multiple nearby residents were evacuated to a near by parking lot where a warming shelter was set up by our members. Multiple mutual-aid agencies were requested to assist with assessing the residents that were evacuated. Approximately 24 residents were evacuated from their homes. The patient that was operating the vehicle was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.

Stafford EMS operated on scene for 6.5 hours and we would like to thank the following agencies for their cooperation and assistance during the duration of this incident: Great Bay Regional EMS, Barnegat First Aid, Surf City EMS (in town coverage), Tuckerton Fire & EMS, Stafford Township Police Department and the Stafford Township Fire Company.

There were no serious injuries to personnel on scene and everyone did an excellent job. We thank our members for getting every apparatus out in a timely fashion.
