Route 72 & Mermaid Crash Sends 4 to Trauma Center

Just after 4pm, Stafford Township EMS was dispatched to a Motor Vehicle Accident with multiple injuries at the intersection of Route 72 and Mermaid Drive. Due to the potential severity of the incident, police communications dispatched an “all call,” immediately bringing in multiple units. Chief 380, Deputy Chief 381, BLS 385, 386, 387, and 389 all responded within 7 minutes of dispatch.

Deputy Chief 381 and BLS 385 arrived on scene and began Immediate treatment and triage. 381 requested 2 ALS units and 2 MEDEVAC helicopters to land at various landing zones established throughout the town. Chief 380 arrived and established unified command with 4710, requesting 2 additional MEDEVAC Helicopters. A tourniquet was placed during treatment on scene due to the severity of one of the injuries. Units operated on scene for approximately 30 minutes with immediate treatment, transport, and delivery of patients to the designated landing zones. Also assisting on scene was a Stafford Township Fire Company, Stafford Township Police Department, and Northeast Metro Ambulance 59.

While units operated on scene, two additional calls came in for an overturned vehicle on the Garden State Parkway and a fall victim. Without delay, Parkertown Fire/EMS and Quality Medical Transport handled those incidents. Parkertown Units transported 2 patients to the trauma center. We thank everyone for their tremendous work in this serious incident and send our thoughts and prayers to the victims and families involved. Again, a special thanks to Stafford Township Police, Stafford Township Fire Company, Northeast Metro Ambulance, Quality Medical Transport, Parkertown Fire/EMS, Ocean County Sheriff Communications and Stafford Police Communications for all their hard work and assistance!

In addition to today’s incidents, your volunteers covered the Fourth of July weekend and responded to 45 incidents since Friday morning. An excellent job to all our hard working members as always!
